Facial Peel Information

What are facial peels? Do you need a facial peel now? These are some questions that will be answered in this article. This information is what you need to think about before you consider getting a facial peel.

You've heard of chemical peels if you have acne scars on your face. These are just a facial peel with a different name. There are milder chemicals for a peel that doesn’t go deep into the skin and they contain small amounts of chemicals and hydroxy acids. The acids in facial peels are often glycolic acid and lactic acid which can be bought at drug stores and beauty supply stores. Most of the milder chemical peels contain less than 8% of the most active ingredients.

Then there is the facial peel that goes much deeper into the skin layers. Trichloracetic acid along with larger amounts of alpha hydroxyl and salicylic acids. These deeper chemical peels can have as much as 2 to 4 times as much of the active ingredients and are much harder on the skin and remove more layers.

Last is the facial peel done by Doctors and Dermatologists. These are done in the Doctors office as medical supervision is absolutely necessary because these formulations contain anywhere from 50-70% active ingredients. Never, ever use this formula at home as you could cause serious damage to your face and look worse than before the peel was done.

Do You Need a Facial Peel?

Why do you need a facial peel procedure of any kind and how do they work? Peels are used to repair or reduce the appearance of damage to the skin, including blemishes, freckles, acne scarring and even age spots. Peels work by exfoliating the skin and getting rid of dead skin cells on the surface of the face. When old skin cells die the face gets saturated with keratin which is a barrier. The dead skin on the face is removed by dissolving the keratin and letting the newer skin come to the surface.

You also need to know there are some risks with a facial peel and the stronger the ingredients the bigger the risk. You will have some redness, swelling, stinging or burning and itching. Most of the time you can expect these problems when getting a deeper peel at the Dermatologists office. In general they aren’t to severe but they can happen with the deeper peels as the formulations are harsher and designed to go deeper.

Peel Side Effects and Price

The major side effects of facial peels can be infection and allergic reactions to the chemicals used in the peel process.
Check with your Doctor before doing any kind of chemical peel to be sure you aren’t allergic or have other problems that might keep you from having the facial peel.

The price vary anywhere from $100.00 to $600.00 or more for the deeper chemical treatments because they require a Doctor to administer them. If you have any facial damage you may want to look further into getting a facial peel as you will look better and have a much higher sense self worth. Looking your best makes everyone feel better. Don't you want to look your best, too.
